IVF+PGT-P embryo screening costs $20,000 to $44,000

PGT Cost Structure

The cost of Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) is typically broken down into two main components:

Embryo Biopsy Fee: This is the cost charged by the fertility clinic for the procedure of carefully removing a small number of cells (trophectoderm) from each developing embryo. This fee is generally quoted per cycle (or per group of embryos) and can sometimes include freezing the embryos.

Genetic Testing Fee: This is the cost charged by the genetic testing laboratory for the actual analysis of the biopsied cells. This is usually billed per embryo. The cost may be capped at a certain number of embryos per cycle. For example, a lab might charge a fee for testing up to 8 embryos, with an additional cost for any embryos tested beyond that number.

The cost is a combination of a per-cycle fee from the clinic for the biopsy and a per-embryo fee from the lab for the genetic analysis.

PGT-P Cost

PGT-P (Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Polygenic Disorders) is a relatively new and highly specialized form of genetic testing. Unlike PGT-M, which looks for a single gene mutation, or PGT-A, which screens for an incorrect number of chromosomes, PGT-P uses a complex scoring system to estimate an embryo's risk for common, multifactorial diseases like heart disease, diabetes, or certain cancers.

Because PGT-P is on the cutting edge of reproductive medicine and involves advanced bioinformatics, the cost is generally higher than other types of PGT. The cost can also vary depending on the specific conditions being screened for and the laboratory performing the test.

A typical cost for PGT-P per cycle including both the embryo biopsy fee and the genetic testing fee can range from $3,000 to over $7,000 on top of the base IVF cycle cost. It's important to remember that this cost is often in addition to other PGT fees (like PGT-A, which is often included in a PGT-P package). The total cost for a cycle that includes all necessary PGT procedures could be significantly higher.

So, to get a rough estimate of the total cost of an IVF cycle with PGT-P, you would add the PGT-P cost to the base IVF cycle cost.

IVF Base Cycle: $15,000 - $30,000 (in MA or CA)

    Medications: $2,000 - $7,000

    PGT-P: $3,000 - $7,000+

Therefore, a very rough total cost could range from $20,000 to over $44,000 for a single cycle, depending on all the factors involved. This does not include other potential add-ons like ICSI, frozen embryo transfers, or embryo storage fees.
